Conservation and Restoration of OLD ROOFS.
We quarried new natural roofing slates at Killoran Slate Quarry in the late 1980's. These new " Killaloe " roof slates were used on many restorations of traditional public buildings. At that time old quarry roof slates were being dumped as rubbish which were perfectly suitable for salvage and re-roofs. We had the production facility for dressing new slate and staff experienced in handling natural roofing slates. For more than 20 years we have continued to salvage old slates throughout Ireland and put them through our works to produce highly acclaimed range of RECLAIMED Blue Bangor and Killaloe roofing slates.
Architects, Contractors and Clients visit our works to choose their new natural roofing slates or old reclaimed roof slates. People are always surprised at the amount of waste slate arising from the Recycling process. People then realise that salvaging slates on the scaffolding runs the risk of bad slates being re-fixed to their roofs.
Old roofs on public buildings are never simple and our customers benefit from our 30 years experience on roof restoration projects. Have a look at our CASE STUDIES heading for projects supplied.

Reclaimed KILLALOE slates
The best known Irish produced natural roofing slate was KILLALOE  from the vast slate quarries in the Arra Mountains at PORTROE, near NENAGH in County Tipperary. The slates were known as KILLALOE natural roofing slates because they were shipped from the port of Killaloe on the Shannon river. Old KILLALOE roof slates are available in a full range of sizes from 10" x 6" up to 26" x 16" for SIZED slates and RANDOMS range from 10" long up to 48" long.

Reclaimed Blue Bangor slates.
Many Irish roofs were also covered  with Welsh Blue Bangor natural roofing slates from North Wales. We have large stocksof old Blue Bangor slates available in a full range of sizes from 10" x 6" up to 26" x 16" for SIZED slates and RANDOMS from 10" Randoms up to 48" Randoms.

Other Reclaimed slates.
Other natural slate quarries in Ireland were operated at AHINNEY near Carrick-on-Suir, BINN DUBH near Roscarbury, West Cork, and VALENTIA in Co. Kerry.
There were many smaller Irish slate quarries in Clare, Mayo, Donegal, Cork, Waterford, Wicklow etc.
Roofing slates were imported from the United Kingdom. Smaller quantities came other Welsh quarries such as Dinorwic and Portmadoc slates, as well as English roofing slates from Delabole in Cornwall, Westmoreland quarries in Cumbria, etc.
We have also salvaged old roofing slates such as Norwegian quartz, American Greens from Vermont USA and heather slates " Genuine Blue Bangor " from Bangor, Maine in USA. It is as important to identify the " matching " slate as it is to assess the quality and suitability of the old slates prior to re-use. Our experienced sales people  are available to attend initially site to provide this critical information BEFORE any roof restoration work starts.

Today
